Do you unintentionally offend people? Do you sometimes leap without looking? Do you worry that others see you as “pushy” or “bossy?” These all could be indications that you are a Type Three Woman with many gifts you may not be aware of. Keep reading to see if the description of the Type Three Woman resonates with you (or describes somebody you know).
In the Dressing Your Truth System (which you can read about in More Than a Makeover–Part One and More Than a Makeover–Part Two), all people have a dominant energy type. There are four types. I have previously posted about Type One and Type Two Women. You can read about them by clicking on the following links: Type One and Type Two.
The Type Three Woman is characterized as “rich and dynamic.” The element associated with her is hydrogen, or fire. If you are a Type Three Woman, you will most likely exhibit a higher energy, and an intensity not found in the other types. As a child, you may have been told to “calm down” or “stop being so loud!”
To a Type Three Woman, anything is possible, and you’re not going to let anything stop you! You are intensely driven and purposeful.
I have a sister-in-law who is a Type Three. One day, she said, “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind doing an Iron Man someday.” I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t mind? Wouldn’t MIND? Like it’s just a walk in the park?” To me, doing something like that would seem almost impossible, and take a huge amount of work and dedication. But to her, there was no question as to whether or not she could really accomplish that goal. Type Threes have a natural confidence that is amazing to observe.
Most of our motivational speakers are Type Threes. They have a passion and a drive that can inspire the rest of us to take action.
The Type Three energy has traditionally not been seen as “feminine” in our culture, and for this reason, many Type Three Women have felt unsettled or out-of-place as they express their natural dynamic energy. You may have felt like you need to “tone down” your personality, or wear soft, subtle clothing to counteract your big personality. One of the reasons I love Dressing Your Truth is because it truly helps all types of women feel feminine, but in a way that is congruent with their true nature.
Here are just a few of the gifts of the Type Three Woman:
- You take action quickly, and you finish what you start. You have the ability to manage many tasks at once.
- You are passionate and confident.
- You are practical.
- You are big-hearted and care deeply about people and causes.
- You tend to be friendly and talkative in social situations. You can easily converse about many subjects.
- You are entrepreneurial and love figuring things out on your own.
Here are some of the challenges for Type Three Women:
- You may pile too many things on your plate and burn yourself out.
- You may appear “pushy” and “overbearing” to others, especially those who get in the way of a goal you are trying to achieve.
- You may speak before thinking and unintentionally offend others.
- You may move forward too quickly without gathering pertinent information.
Here are some key words that may help you identify yourself as a Type Three Woman:
- Active
- Adventurous
- Big-hearted
- Daring
- Determined
- Independent
- Intense
- Magnetic
- Outgoing
- Quick
- Practical
- Self-confident
- Strong
- Tenacious
Some famous Type Three Women are Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Katherine Hepburn, Idina Menzel, Hilary Swank, Barbara Walters, Jennifer Lopez, and Tina Turner.
Are You a Type Three Woman?
If you are still not sure if you are a Type Three Woman (or you know you are not, but want to know which type you are) there is a free online video course you can take. I also highly recommend the book It’s Just My Nature! by Carol Tuttle. (You can order it by clicking on the link, or your local library may also have it). The book is extremely helpful and thorough and will help you not only understand yourself, but your husband, children, co-workers, and everyone around you!
Once you discover your type, there is a whole system of dressing that helps you express on the outside who you really are on the inside. You can read about this in More Than a Makeover Part One and More Than a Makeover Part Two. I love this program because it has helped me know with certainty how to look great every single day! And when I look great, I feel great.
I also love Dressing Your Truth because it looks at the heart and mind of a woman rather than her outward appearance (skin, eye, hair color, etc.) to determine what will bring out her greatest, true beauty. If you’ve never really felt beautiful before, this course is life-changing. The creator of Dressing Your Truth, Carol Tuttle, is a Type Three herself. Check it out and start on your journey of beautiful self discovery today! (It’s FREE!)
This free online course will teach you all about the colors that look best on you, as well as what you should look for in design line, texture, fabrication, and pattern in your clothing. It also gives you guidelines for your hair, jewelry, and other accessories. If you are a Type Three Woman, you will love this course, because it teaches you how to shop very quickly! Because you are so results-oriented, you may have just chosen clothes in the past that you didn’t really love, just to “get it done.” Now you can quickly choose the most flattering clothes for yourself, and still “get it done” in record time!

I took the test and think I am a 2/3. How do I know?

Hi Christina. Sometimes it’s hard to know for sure what type we are! Have you read It’s Just My Nature or The Child Whisperer? If not, either one of those books should hopefully clear things up for you!

Yea- for sure, not everyone gets it right the 1st time. We often tend to adapt in life to fit in with our family dynamics. If we have childhood wounding or abuse of any kind etc… we can quiet /subdue our true nature. If we were scolded as a child for being too loud, pushy we may feel the need to adapt… so many Type 3’s identify as a Type 2/possible T3 secondary. I know my dynamic, confident T3 nature was definitely quashed by my mom so I was ‘push forward’, results-oriented but wasn’t confident enough to OWN it. This Energy Profiling system has helped me CLAIM my true nature – I actually went to see a counsellor & worked through some issues that had been holding me back & am moving forward with much more confidence… life changing
Good Luck – Energy profiling really clears up/explains a LOT when we get it right … it can be a journey or you may know right away … self discovery!

Yes Stephanie, absolutely! I think almost all of us have tried to be something we are not because of what we experienced as children! It’s so liberating when we discover our true nature and realize that we aren’t “broken!”
