More Than a Makeover–Part One

June 2, 2015 by Melissa Howell 4 Comments

Did you know that who you are inside should have a bigger impact on what you wear than your skin color, hair color, or body type? Keep reading to see why everything we’ve been taught about fashion is wrong!

Did you know that who you are inside should have a bigger impact on what you wear than your skin color, hair color, or body type? Come see why everything we've been taught about fashion is wrong!

Please excuse the poor quality of these pictures. The professional photographer in me cringes. Just lean back from your screen, and everything will be fine 🙂

Have you ever wondered why you look great in some clothes, and not great in others? The clothes are cute. Your friend looks incredible in the same style. Why don’t you?

Well, there’s a reason, and it has very little to do with actual “fashion” and very much to do with YOU and what makes you special and amazing!

So what do I mean by “More Than a Makeover?” What I’m going to share with you is a makeover program that works from the inside out. It looks at the whole woman–her thoughts, feelings, movement, energy, and expressions–and uses those things to determine what will best reveal her true internal nature on the outside.

I was first introduced to this program about three years ago by a friend, and my life has never been the same. Not only has it helped me understand and accept myself–it has helped me understand and accept my husband, children, and everyone around me. I feel like I have such a better grasp on individual human natures, and this greater understanding helps me treat others with more compassion and less judgment.

The program is called Dressing Your Truth, and it truly is revolutionary.

Did you know that who you are inside should have a bigger impact on what you wear than your skin color, hair color, or body type? Come see why everything we've been taught about fashion is wrong!

The premise of the program is that there are four basic energy types. Each of us lead with one energy type, though we all have elements of each of the four types. Once you figure out which is your dominant type, you can learn exactly which types of clothing, hairstyles, jewelry, shoes, and other accessories bring out the most of your natural beauty.

Do you spend a lot of time shopping, or sighing as you look in your closet? Are you so happy when some days you know you look great, but other days, you just feel “off” even though you have put in the same amount of effort, or know you are wearing fashionable clothes? Do you just feel more comfortable in some things than others, but don’t know why? This program explains all of that!

And honestly, this program just makes sense! Think of the must bubbly, outgoing person you know. Don’t you think they would look best in bright, light clothing with pops of color rather than solid black?

And what about the most calm, perhaps shy person you know? Do you think they would look best in hot pink?

Sometimes we try to dress in a way that we think will cover up our perceived shortcomings. A fun, upbeat person might wear black to try to appear more serious. A shy, retiring person might wear hot pink to appear more outgoing and confident. Unfortunately, the contrast between the true nature of these women and what they are wearing just accentuates the very qualities they are trying to hide!

Dressing Your Truth teaches you to embrace and celebrate your true nature, not hide it!

The amazing thing is that this works for all skin colors, hair colors, eye colors, ethnicities and body types. It cuts shopping time in half, and gives you the confidence to KNOW you look great, every single day!

Are you excited? I was (and I still am!)

Did you know that who you are inside should have a bigger impact on what you wear than your skin color, hair color, or body type? Come see why everything we've been taught about fashion is wrong.

Here’s me, Dressing My Truth accidentally (except for the pants) a few years ago. This is one of my favorite pictures of myself! Now I know why I’ve always liked it so much!

The first step is figuring out which type you are. Below is a brief overview. You can learn more specifics about each type by clicking on their links.

Type 1: The Bright, Animated Woman. The element associated with the Type 1 Woman is air. This woman exhibits high movement and energy, but also a lightness and brightness.

Type 2: The Soft, Subtle Woman. The element associated with the Type 2 Woman is water. This woman exhibits a lower, fluid energy. She is generally easy-going and tuned into others.

Type 3: The Rich, Dynamic Woman. The element associated with the Type 3 Woman is fire. This woman has a high, pushing energy. She is determined and driven.

Type 4: The Bold, Striking Woman. The element associated with the Type 4 Woman is earth. This woman has a very still, solid energy. Though often quiet, she has strong ideals and perfectionistic tendencies.

There is a free online course you can take to figure out your type. I also highly recommend the book, “It’s Just My Nature!“, by Carol Tuttle (who is also the creator of Dressing Your Truth). This book is what really helped me to figure out my type (which I will reveal next time!) It also transformed my relationships with my husband and children, because I understand them so much better now!

In part two of this post, I will reveal my type, and also explain more about how I figured out which type I was and how liberating it was to finally have the permission to be me!

You can head on over to part two by clicking here: More Than a Makeover–Part Two.

Better yet, watch me do a Dressing Your Truth Makeover on myself so you can see this in action. Then click straight from the video to get your free makeover!

I’m brand new here and just read the Accessories blog. One look at the first jewelry picture and I thought, “Someone sure knows their “Type.” It was fun to find out you’ve benefited from Dressing Your Truth too. Like you said, it’s about so much more than just how to dress. I’ve never encountered a system that has helped me so much in understanding myself and those around me. Thank you for sharing this and the Kon-mari method. They both are utterly life-changing!

i AM A JUST DISCOVERED TYPE 3. QUESTION? DOES MY WEBSITE, http://WWW.MYEVERYDAYPSYCHOLOGY.COM REFLECT THIS? I PURSUED AND COMPLETED MY PH.d. AT A BIG TEN SCHOOL. BUT NOW AM A GRANDMOTHER X TEN AND A FARMWIFE. GOT MY FIRST COMPLEMENTS ON WHAT I WAS WEARING AFTER I STARTED DRESSING MY TYPE. AM INTERESTED IN HAIRSTYLES FOR FINE HAIR POSSIBLY HIGHLIGHTS AND A LITTLE BIT EDGY. I KEEP MY HAIR IN A SHORTER STYLE AND AM COVERING SOME GRAY. I ALSO HAVE BEEN SPEAKING UP MORE. I AM INSPIRED WHEN I WRITE AND HEAR IT IN MY MIND. I KEEP NOTES ALL OVER THE PLACE OF IDEAS FOR MY NEXT POSTS. POSSIBLY I AM A SECONDARY ONE. READING ALL CAROL’S BOOKS.

Hi Joy! So excited you discovered Dressing Your Truth and are getting compliments! You are the second person who has mentioned wanting some hairstyle inspiration. I am planning to do some posts about that, so stay tuned! I would say that your website looks more Type 2, but my website looks Type 1, and I am Type 4! I think the colors and feel of your website are great for the type of message you are sharing. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
