Do people constantly tell you to “hurry up?” Do you chide yourself for being “too sensitive?” Do you have trouble making decisions?
All these things could indicate that you are a Type Two Woman. The good news is, these seemingly negative things are actually indications of some of your greatest gifts!
In the Dressing Your Truth System created by Carol Tuttle (which you can read about in my posts More Than a Makeover–Part One and More Than a Makeover–Part Two), every person has a “type,” which is determined by the nature of energy we exhibit in our lives.
Our innate, personal characteristics govern to a great extent how we act and react.
And when we discover and see who we truly are on the inside, and match it with what we wear on the outside, our natural beauty really shines through!
Today I will be discussing the DYT Type Two Woman, otherwise known as the “Soft, Subtle Woman.”
Dressing Your Truth Type 2 Characteristics
If you have a Type 2 personality or energy, you are probably very thoughtful and deliberate.
You want to make sure you thoroughly investigate every option before making a decision. This could be why other people want you to hurry up or get frustrated by your apparent lack of decision-making skills. It’s not that you lack the skills–it’s that you don’t want to rush into a hasty decision before you have carefully considered all the options.
We have a joke about this in my family. My husband is a Type Two, and I almost dumped him before we got married because of what a slow shopper he was! I waited for him while he spent two hours in a little store trying to decide which leather jacket to buy! I make decisions more quickly, so this was agony for me!
After we got married, this pattern continued. This is how I describe our two shopping styles. I am a “Hunter Shopper.” I know what I want before I go into the store. Once I get there, I want to go in, kill it, bag it, and get out. My husband is a “Museum Shopper.” He wants to slowly wander up and down every aisle, considering whether or not each item might be useful to us. Now that I understand this about him, I am more prepared to be patient when we are shopping together.
Many Type Two women are very sensitive. This can manifest in getting your feelings hurt easily and taking offense when no offense is meant. But the flip side of the coin is that you have great compassion for others and are generally very tender and loving. You tune into the feelings of others and are often the first to reach out with helping hands.
Most Type Two women have a calm demeanor and can “go with the flow.” Others tend to worry a lot, thinking about every possible outcome for every situation.
You have a great attention to detail and are often the ones tying the prettiest bows and adding the flowers and other elegant finishing touches to any gift or room.
My second daughter is a Type Two. She is very careful and thorough in her schoolwork and has the best handwriting of anyone in the family! She values comfort in her clothing and is a great organizer.
DYT Type 2 Facial Features
In the picture of my daughter above, you can even see her Type Two nature expressed in her face.
Many (but not all) Type Two women have large “doe eyes,” and soft cheeks that flow into the rest of their face.
You can see that her skin tone is very even, blended and smooth. There is a gentle, fluid quality about her face.
You can often see gentle “S” curves in the face (from the eyes down the nose, for example).
Here are just a few of the gifts of the Type Two Woman:
- You are very observant and notice little details that others may miss.
- You are a “connector,” helping people come together in a loving way.
- You are thorough and careful. A job you do is done well.
- You are steady and reliable.
- You are a peacemaker.
- You are kind-hearted, patient, and gentle.
Type Two Women may have the following challenges:
- You get too caught up in the details and can’t see how to move forward.
- You may be too attached to objects and memories (either good or bad) and not be able to let go of resentments and move forward in your life.
- You may be so concerned about others’ feelings that you neglect your own.
Here are some words that describe Type 2 Characteristics:
- Careful
- Comfortable
- Conscientious
- Elegant
- Gentle
- Gracious
- Lovely
- Modest
- Neat
- Particular
- Refined
- Romantic
- Sensitive
- Sweet
- Thoughtful
- Warm

Are You a Type Two Woman?
If you are still not sure if you are a Type Two Woman (or you know you are not, but want to know which type you are) there is a Dressing Your Truth Quiz you can take.
I also highly recommend the book “It’s Just My Nature!” by Carol Tuttle. (You can order it by clicking on the link, or your local library may also have it). The book is extremely helpful and thorough and will help you not only understand yourself, but your husband, children, co-workers, and everyone around you!
Once you discover your type, there is a whole system of dressing that helps you express on the outside who you really are on the inside. You can read about this in More Than a Makeover Part One and More Than Makeover Part Two. I love this program because it has helped me know with certainty how to look great every single day! And when I look great, I feel great.
I also love Dressing Your Truth because it looks at the heart and mind of a woman rather than her outward appearance (skin, eye, hair color, etc.) to determine what will bring out her greatest, true beauty.
This free online course will teach you all about the colors that look best on you, as well as what you should look for in design line, texture, fabrication, and pattern in your clothing. It also gives you guidelines for your hair, jewelry, and other accessories. The videos are so fun to watch, and it is great to learn the “secret formula” for looking great every single day!
I love not having to guess any more and “hope” that I look good. With this system, I know for sure! You’ve heard the saying that “beauty is only skin-deep.” This program looks at the beauty beneath the skin and brings it to the surface! It’s the beauty you bring to the world through your divine nature and innate gifts. And when what you wear on the outside matches who you truly are on the inside, that beauty is only magnified!
Be sure to share this with the Type Two women in your life!

I like your series on this and would like to see more, but just my two cents – I often see Julia Roberts and Barbara Streisand mis-typed on color analysis sites. I truly don’t believe they are Type 2. Julia Roberts seems like a strong Type 3, and while I’m unsure about BS, it’s doubtful she’s a Type 2. Oftentimes, depending on which color analysis system is used, it seems only one aspect is taken into account. Typing people in real life, it seems more accurate to classify people based on a variety of qualities.

Vanessa, I actually agree with you on the possibility of Julia Roberts and Barbara Streisand being mis-typed. I just mentioned some of the women that were listed in the book “It’s Just My Nature.” I will say that Julia Roberts’ face looks Type 2 to me, but she doesn’t act like a Type 2. (Maybe she’s a secondary Type 3?) Same thing with Barbara Streisand.I will also say that my mother and mother-in-law are both Type 2s, but neither are particularly warm or graceful 🙂 They are more in to comfort and practicality. I think all the types can manifest differently in different people, especially considering what their secondary type is. Thanks for your comment!

As soon as I find a spare minute, I think I need to look into this more! I would have said I was a type 1 after reading that one, but now I am not sure. 10 years ago, I would have easily been pegged as a type 1, though. I wonder if these change throughout life?

Hi Jen, I really hope you do find out more about Dressing Your Truth! I know you will love it! I think that after watching the free course, you will have a better picture of which type you are. Your core nature does not change through your life, although your personality can change based on certain situations and what has been expected of you by your family or society, etc. But you were born with a certain energy type and that will stay constant. It’s just a matter of discovering what it is and celebrating it!

I really enjoyed your descriptions of the 4 types. Your personal comments helped me figure out my type. I am slow and soft spoken, so I figured type 2. Then I read your comments about shopping and can’t stand hair in your face, knew I was a type 4. I am going to get the book, It’s Just Your Nature.
Thank you so much

Good luck, Susan! I hope you love the book!
