Welcome!
I’m so glad you found this challenge! You are looking for ways to organize your home and your life so you can save time and feel at peace in your environment! You have come to the right place!
Have you tried time and time again to organize and clean your home, only to feel frustrated and defeated? Haven’t you wished over and over again that you could have an organized home, and more time to just enjoy your life? I’m pretty sure we ALL have felt that way. I’m here to tell you that you CAN have an organized home, and that it can stay that way PERMANENTLY. I know. That’s a really bold statement. Just trust me and see for yourself!
If you have read (or wanted to read) The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, you will recognize that the first area of focus for creating a wonderfully organized home is our clothing. Today we are going to be dealing with our pants and skirts. You will be amazed at the change in your closet and drawers! Let’s get started!
How many of you have seen The Lego Movie? Do you remember the ONE t.v. show the Lego people got to watch? It’s called “Where Are My Pants?” Do you feel like that sometimes? “Where are my pants? Are they in the laundry room? Are they at the bottom of my drawer? When did I last wear them?” Then you go around and say, “Honey, where are my pants?” NO MORE! We are going to fix all that!
There is an easy way to solve this problem and to know EXACTLY which pants are in your drawer with a single glance. It’s all in the folding and storing technique. (Scroll down to see a video).

Most of us can easily identify which clothes we love, which are just eh, and which we can’t stand. Let’s try the magic question with our skirts first, and then learn the best way to store them. Here’s what you do:
How to Organize Skirts
- Take all your skirts out of your closet and spread them on your bed or the floor. Don’t miss the skirts in the laundry. Get them all!
- Hold each one in your hands and pay attention to your feelings. Do you love it, or not? DO NOT THINK TOO MUCH! Do not say to yourself, “Well, I used to love this, but I don’t fit into it any more.” Or, “My mother-in-law gave this to me and she would feel bad if I got rid of it.” Or, “Do I really like this? Hmm. I’m not sure.” If you are saying any of these things, get rid of it. These are clear indicators that the items do not bring you joy (and your mother-in-law will never know).
- Put all your “no joy” skirts into a bag to donate. Take the bag down to your car or put it with other donation items so you can get rid of them as soon as possible.
- Hang the remaining skirts up in your closet. You can either hang them by color, or by length.
Here is a picture of my skirts in my closet before doing this challenge. There are several falling off the shelf above the hangers, and many more around the corner that you can’t see.
Here they are spread out on my bed. I had over 30 skirts.
When I finished, I had 14. I had cut the number in half. And guess what? I’m not sad, because I love all of them!
