The church bag. The swim bag. The hat bag. The gloves bag. Plus twenty other bags that have no clear use. If I were a “purse” person, I would also have multiple purses, plus handbags and clutches (which I am tempted to buy every time I go to Charming Charlie, because they have so many incredibly cute ones there). What to do with all these bags? Luckily Mari Kondo has the solution in her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It’s quite simple, really. Just store bags inside of other bags. But as always with the KonMari method, there is a particular way to do it. Afterall, we don’t want to forget which bags have been stored inside others.
The first thing to do is to gather all your bags and purses into one place and get rid of all those that no longer bring you joy. When you have whittled down your supply, it’s time to start deciding which bags go inside other bags. Mari suggests that you group bags of like-material (such as leather, heavy fabric, etc.) and purpose (such as bags for weddings, fancy soirees, etc.) Then store no more than two bags inside another, and make sure that the handles are clearly visible outside of all the bags. That way, you can tell which bags are inside of which other bags. Once you have done this, line the bags up neatly together. Remember the rule of storing like-things together for long-lasting freedom from clutter. (You can see in the picture below that I have stored one of my purses sideways inside another. The handles aren’t hanging out, but I can clearly see which purse is in there, and that is the whole point).
