Course: Bread
Cuisine: French
Servings: 16
Author: Melissa Howell
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups flour
Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the yeast and sugar to the warm water and let sit until frothy, about ten minutes.

  2. Add the oil, salt, and 2 cups of the flour to the yeast mixture. Blend well.

  3. Add another 1 1/2 cups of flour to the mixture and blend well. If using a stand mixer, use the dough hook.

  4. Add another 1/2 cup of flour until the dough is smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 30-60 minutes.

  5. Punch down and turn out onto floured surface. Divide dough into 16 equal pieces and form into balls. (See instructions above in this post).

  6. Place the balls about two inches apart on lightly-greased baking sheets. Cover with a cloth and let rise until doubled. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. while rolls are rising.

  7. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown.
