My sister-in-law Charity is awesome. She is one of the most inspirational people I know. That’s probably because she is a Type 3 in the Dressing Your Truth program. She can literally do anything. And if she can’t do it, she is confident she can learn how to do it. She got a second college degree, all while being the mom to five children, ages 6 and under. She’s one of those people who you think must be living another life in a parallel universe, because it’s the only explanation for how she can do so much.
Like many Type 3 women, Charity felt a little lost when it comes to fashion. Since the Type 3 expression has typically not been seen as “feminine” in our culture, Type 3 women can have a hard time knowing what to wear that doesn’t make them feel silly or uncomfortable. For this reason, I have observed that many resort to wearing more “masculine” or casual clothing. Jeans and t-shirts (and typically no makeup) are often the hallmark of a Type 3 woman. (I am not saying there is anything wrong with jeans and t-shirts! It’s what I wear almost every day! But my t-shirts are fitted, don’t have sports or restaurant logos, and look good with a necklace).
I first met Charity on her wedding day. She looked beautiful!
But every time I saw her afterward, she was wearing drab t-shirts or masculine sweaters. I would think to myself, “Charity is so pretty! Why is she wearing “man clothes”? I recently told Charity of my thoughts, and she responded by saying, “Man clothes is exactly what it was, and is, on my days when I regress. 🙂 I don’t mind. It was my safe place and armor that I don’t need all the time anymore.”
Type 3 women instinctively know that they don’t look good in ruffles, bows, and other things that are considered “feminine.” When they learn all the great options available to them in the Dressing Your Truth system, they are incredibly transformed and they look amazing!
In Charity’s before and after picture, you can see a huge difference, even though she isn’t wearing makeup in either picture. In the first picture, she has butched her hair (a very Type 3, shocking thing to do, by the way) and the colors she is wearing just suck all the life out of her. In the second picture, the rich, earthy tones harmonize with her skin and her energy and make her face glow. Plus, don’t you love that hat?
Charity recently sent me this email, along with this picture. (Charity is the one on the far right):
“My aunt posted up a picture on Facebook that took me back. It is amazing, even to myself. I clearly remember dressing like that and feeling so insecure. It is amazing to me how much I have grown and changed over the last ten years. I believe that Dressing Your Truth has helped greatly with my style and self esteem. The Lord has blessed me to open my heart to others and take more chances. It has been so long now that I’ve been working with the Lord to become a better person I forgot how I used to be until I saw this picture. So many thoughts when I saw this picture.
“I thought you should have the picture because it shows how I used to dress and be. I don’t know if it would be helpful for the piece you were going to write about Type 3’s but I’m willing for you to use it if you want. If not, I hope it brings a smile to your face and makes you happy to know you have been a part of my journey to become a better person. Thank you. :)”
I have heard these same kinds of sentiments from many women who have embraced Dressing Your Truth. It truly has been life-changing for them, as it has been for me. I am so grateful for my friend who introduced it to me, and I am so happy to share it with as many women as I can!

Hi! I’ve found your page before, when I thought I might be the same type as you. But I’m pretty sure I’m a T3, and this post resonates SO MUCH. I loved in baggy tees and baggy jeans as a teen, and now am totally cool in a too big sweatshirt and jeans. But I’m transitioning out of that… comfort ISN’T always where it’s at. Thanks for this post!

Hi Christina! Thanks so much for your comment! I don’t know you and haven’t seen your picture, but the name of your blog showed up for me, and it sounds like a very Type 3 name for a blog 🙂 I hope you check out the Dressing Your Truth site to learn more about your type and see which clothes look awesome on you! And let me know if you do! I am thinking of possibly featuring some readers who go through the Dressing Your Truth program. I would love it if you were one of them!

Adrienne, I love your attitude! Even though your post got removed, you didn’t take offense! You even laughed! That means you probably are Type 3 🙂 Any other Type would probably be hurt or worried or offended if that happened to them! I’m glad you are enjoying Dressing Your Truth!
