“What are your top three organizing challenges?”
I asked this question to my readers recently and got some great responses. Here are what several of them said. See if you can relate.
“1) Paperwork – bills, invoices, junk mail, coupons and specials/flyers to hang on to. What do I keep? Where? For how long?
2) Kid’s stuff – “special” papers and things they make/color/etc. and bring home from school or at home, what do I keep, Where do I keep it? Other than asking the kids – they want to keep everything and even if I ask them to choose one or three or whatever there’s still tooooooo much junk and clutter. (Or maybe we are just too creative ha ha).
3) BOOKS. It’s killing me – we have tons of books. I’ve donated, I’ve boxed them, shelved them, etc. But we have lots of books that no one uses and we can get whatever on the internet anyway. What is the best way to know what books to keep and what to donate and what to toss? ”
“My top challenge is mail and knowing what to do with it. Some days I’m good at keeping on top of it but then I miss a couple days and it just piles up. I also have a challenge of what I need to keep or just get rid of it.”
“The master bedroom. Too much furniture, closets are full. What to do with it all.
Den/office, the storage space is full!
How to keep a 2 bedroom/2 bath condo from clutter. I am an antique collector afraid of looking like a hoarder.
“My biggest organizational issues are papers…mail and kids school papers, and my closet…specifically the stuff in drawers and shelves. Hanging up stuff stays fine but anything on a shelf or in drawer…even shoes are everywhere!! ”
“So, my organization problems are many, but my main issue seems to be the top of my dresser. My makeup and lotions are everywhere!! Once every few weeks, I organize, declutter and it looks beautiful and within a day or two it’s a jumbled mess again!”
Can you relate? I think we all have places in our homes that are “black holes” for clutter. No matter how much we take out, stuff just seems to get sucked back in!
I will tell you that like many of the people above, paper was a big issue for me. My desk was ALWAYS a disaster. I cleaned it maybe once a year (I know that’s horrible!) But in two weeks tops, it was just as messy as before.
Then a friend introduced me to The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up. I have read this book now at least 4 times. I even created a challenge on my blog that covers all the areas in the book. My second most popular post is the one about how to deal with paper! Here is a link to that post: Transform Home, Transform Your Life–Week 14–Papers.
I am creating my own organizing program inspired by The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up. In it, I give you detailed instructions for how to declutter and organize your papers (including kids’ schoolwork and artwork), books (including cookbooks and textbooks), mail (and how to stop even receiving junk mail), clothing (and how to fold it easily and perfectly so you can see everything you have at a single glance). I take you through every area of your home and help you transform it, and KEEP it transformed! No more black holes of clutter!
This program is going to launched April 3, 2017, and I’m so excited! I know that it really works, because for over a year, my desk has stayed CLEAN! My drawers and closets have stayed ORGANIZED! And my kitchen cupboards are no longer booby-trapped with Tupperware!
If you want to be notified when this amazing program launches (and to get in on special bonuses when it does), be SURE to subscribe! (You’ll also get fun freebies from me!)
